My name is Joey Gattuso. You probably remember me as nsgevo89. This is my new account. I mostly railfan Tidewater Virginia. There are two NS lines and two CSXT lines in Tidewater, plus three shortlines. LINES THAT I RAILFAN: NS Norfolk District: mostly intermodal and coal, with two daily manifest trains. There will be supposedly more coal once NS signs a coal contract with China. Also more intermodal traffic once the Heartland Corridor Project is finished. CSXT Peninsula Subdivision: about 80% coal, with 2 Amtrak trains in each direction Saturday-Thursday, three in each direction on Friday, two through locals, and as-needed rock trains. Seems to be busier at night. CSXT Portsmouth Subdivision: Light traffic with two intermodals, two manifests, a local, and as-needed grain. Again, most trains seem to run at night. CSXT A-Line (aka North End Subdivision): heavy traffic base with mostly manifest, with some intermodal, coal and grain. Tropicana juice empties south, loads north. On rare occasions, phosphate and sulfur trains will run. Also 10 Amtrak trains. CSXT RF&P Subdivision: Very busy line with about 18 Amtrak trains and about 20 or so freights. Mostly manifest, but intermodal and coal also thrown into the mix. Also the Tropicana juice train each direction; empties south, loads north. Busiest during the day. I will also occasionally railfan shortlines. Shortlines I will (hopefully) get in action: Chesapeake & Albemarle Railroad: runs 2 trains per day. Traffic consists of empty rock (north) and loaded rock (south). North Carolina & Virginia: runs 2 trains per day. Never seen this one in action, but hope to at some point. Commonwealth Railway: used to run 2 trains per day, until the BASF plant in West Norfolk shut down. They now run intermodal trains to and from the new APM terminal. There is a train that runs to Suffolk and becomes NS V07. Bay Coast Railroad: runs about twice weekly. Track is in very bad shape, and I have only recorded this railroad once, but not on the Eastern Shore. Hopefully I'll get it soon, but it's very difficult to catch something on this shortline due to low traffic levels. Norfolk & Portsmouth Belt Line: runs as-needed basically, but easier to catch than Bay Coast Railroad. Employs switchers of Southern heritage, painted black with "NPBL" on the side.Videos (337)

8:46 PM I briefly camped out at Lake Meade Road and waited for my favorite train on the NS. NS 233 heads west with an interesting lashup: A Catfish, an ex-Conrail SD50, and an ex-LMS C40-8W. The last two units are still in blue. What was interesting is that the lead unit on this train had a...

4:57 PM CSXT Q760, a unit loaded rock train, heads east on the Portsmouth Sub at East Washington Street. Note the power: an ex-Conrail GP38-2 in YN3! A nice K5LA horn to go with it, too! It was a short train, but I was still stoked to see the loaded rock train on this line! (yes, this is jointed...

8:40 PM NS 233 roars westbound as seen from the Thunderbird's windshield again. The locomotive lashup consists of: Catfish/Connie Catfish/Catfish. This train had a very quiet horn, in fact, I barely heard him sounding off for the two other crossings in town. Nice P135R24 horn on the leader and a...
